A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE RAYMOND COMANS FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED AND INFLUENTIAL SERVICE TO THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

WHEREAS, Representative Raymond Comans of Decatur, Mississippi, has chosen not to seek reelection to the Mississippi House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, his decision brings to a conclusion twenty-seven years of dedicated service to the people of the Seventy-eighth House District and to the citizens of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Representative Comans served in the House of Representatives from 1964 through 1976 and from 1984 through 1999, providing the citizens of Kemper, Lauderdale, Neshoba, Newton and Scott Counties with decisive leadership and commitment to the principles of excellence; and

WHEREAS, Representative Comans' proven ability was recognized when he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Public Buildings, Grounds and Lands Committee (1996-2000); and member of the Agriculture, Apportionment and Elections, and Appropriations Committees; and

WHEREAS, he has been closely involved in many significant bills which were considered during his term; and

WHEREAS, Representative Raymond Comans was born on March 20, 1930, at Dixon, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, he is married to the former Glenda Burkes, and they have three children: Cheryl Lynne, Charlotte Ann and Catherine Lynelle; and

WHEREAS, he is well known for his common sense, good nature and irrepressible sense of humor, all of which will be missed by his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Representative Raymond Comans has distinguished himself as a highly respected legislator and has served in a manner which will be an exceptional model for his successors to emulate; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the exemplary service of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE, That we do hereby commend the distinguished service of Representative Raymond Comans in the Mississippi House of Representatives, and we wish him success and prosperity in his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Comans and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
